Manhunt of Mystery Island (1945) a.k.a. Captain Mephisto and the Transformation Machine

This serial offers quite a lot of bondage for Linda. She had 6 scenes in 8 chapters. Three of them were full treatment and one was gag only.

Chapter 4
Claire (Linda Stirling) is captured by Captain Mephisto's henchman who hogties her hands and feet together in front of her and uses an obligatory white handkerchief to gag her. While the hero is fighting him she falls down on the floor and proves that she isn't a helpless damsel in distress at all by grabbing a gun and shooting the villain.

Chapter 8
A very brief scene- The hero finds Claire who gagged with a white handkerchief and has her hands tied behind her back and unties her.

Chapter 12
Claire is grabbed by Mephisto's Henchman and gagged with a black cloth. She is taken away through a secret door but she isn't tied.

Chapter 13
We saw Claire getting captured in the previous chapter and now she is also tied to a chair and gagged by Mephisto himself. The hero comes to rescue her but luckily for us before he can remove her gag he is stopped by the Mephisto and the fight breaks out. Claire once again proves that she is not only a helpless and weak woman and punishes Mephisto for not tying her legs by kicking him twice during the fight.

The Tiger Woman (1944) a.k.a. Perils of the Darkest Jungle - Chapter 9

The Tiger Woman was Linda's first leading role in the serial. She got tied up in 6 chapters but was gagged only in the ninth one.
Bad guys tie her to the chair and gag her with a typical ineffective but sexy white cloth over her mouth. After a short while she is un-gagged and almost untied by the hero (he forgot to untie her left ankle :-))

Linda Stirling - the Best Damsel of the 1940s

Without any doubt Linda Stirling (1921 - 1997) can receive the title of the most frequently bound and gagged actress of the 40s. She was a star of many movie serials. In four of them - The Tiger Woman (1944), Manhunt of Mystery Island (1945), The Purple Monster Strikes (1945) and Jesse James Rides Again (1947) - she received full treatment (was bound and gagged), in some of the cases not only once. All of these scenes are included in today's update together with a minor scene from Manhunt where she was only briefly gagged.
However it is not all. In the above mentioned serials she had quite a lot tie-up scenes without gags as well as in Zorro's Black Whip (1944) and The Crimson Ghost (1946). I am not interested in the bondage scenes without where the character isn't gagged so those are not included.

If you know of any other actresses of the period covered at my blog (1910s - 1960s) who were frequently bound and gagged on screen and whom I have been neglecting so far, please let me know.

Enjoy the update.

The Door With Seven Locks (1940) a.k.a. The Chamber of Horrors

This is a quite cool British mystery movie based on E. Wallace mystery. It has got everything you want from this kind of movie - an old house (in this case with a tomb and museum of torture), a lot of fog, bizarre villains, mute servant and of course a damsel in distress. She is played by Lili Palmer. The villains tie her up and lock her in the tomb. She is gagged with a rag tied over her mouth and even nose. She manages to loosen her wrists but not to free her hands and take her gag off and she starts to scream for help but no-one hears her. In the end she is found half-unconscious and rescued from the tomb.

Rocky Mountain Mystery (1935) a.k.a. The Fighting Westerner

In this early Randolph Scott western, his love interest played by Ann Sheridan is kidnapped by the bad guys in the end of the movie. She is taken from their hideout to a radium mine where Scott finds them and fights the bad guys.
Quite good but unfortunately we see most of her from great distance.

Sinful Cargo (1936) a.k.a. Yellow Cargo

A heroine portrayed by Eleanor Hunt is kidnapped together with her partner from the newspaper by a gang smuggling Chinese people into the country. They are both tied and tape gagged.

I usually don't mind putzes and sometimes I really like couples in distress scenes but this ugly guy interferes too much in my opinion. Luckily this scene is quite long so we get couple of single shots of Ms. Hunt alone and then the guy manages to removes his gag but she doesn't so she is gagged alone for a while. Probably the most interesting fact is that they are gagged with white tape which is very rare for these old movies.
